The origins of the Cornflower are ancient: evidence of the flower dates back to the Neolithic era and it is nicknamed "spell herb". Legend has it that the goddess Flora, after finding the dead body of her beloved Cyanus in a field full of cornflowers, wanted to name those flowers just after him: the scientific name is indeed Centaurea Cyanus. Centaurea derives from the name of the centaur Chiron, who, wounded in the foot by a poisoned arrow, treated himself with the juice of the flower.
